Pacquiao vs Cotto generates 1.25 Million PPV buys

Nov. 21, 2009 | by Jimmy M.Thompson

The Pacquiao vs Cotto Firepower fight generated 1.25 million pay-per-view buys from 650,000--cable homes and 600,000--satellite services. This fight outranked the Mayweather vs Marquez fight on Sept. 19 that generated approximately 1.05 million buys.

The Pacquiao vs Cotto Firepower was a great success in boxing business. It was a great fight between two great warriors in their primes. Manny Pacquiao made a history, the first fighter to win seven titles in seven divisions. Miguel Cotto’s professional record was tarnished for the second time after his first loss to Antonio Margarito.

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are the hottest names in boxing today. The public is looking forward to Mayweather- Pacquiao to settle next year.

HBO Sports Ross Greenburg said,
"They have to deliver,"
"The American public wants that fight."
"The two best pound-for-pound fighters in the world in the same weight class in the prime of their careers, It just doesn't get any better than that."

According to Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum,
"The way I look at it now, boxing is really on a roll," Arum said. "We would be idiots now to slow the momentum and the only way we can keep the momentum is to make this fight."
