Morales vs Alfaro on March 27

Jan. 26, 2010 | by Isdel Gaza

Erik "El Terrible" Morales will return to the ring after a 2½ year-retirement. Morales will face the former lightweight titleholder Jose Alfaro on March 27 in Monterrey, Mexico.

The 33- year old Morales has not won a fight since March 19, 2005.The time when he defeated the pound for pound superstar Manny Pacquiao. His last loss to David Diaz in August 2007 pushed him to retirement.

"That's it," "No more fighting. I am done. Too many punches, particularly to the head area." Morales said after his loss to David Diaz.

After the long silence, Morales announced his return for another chapter of his boxing career. Morales asked Mexican promoter Nacho Huizar to promote his return-fight on March 27.

"After I heard he was going to come back, he called me and begged me to be his partner," Huizar said. "It's an honor to me for him to pick me. If I don't do it, somebody else will." "I think he'll sell pretty good, but not like he did last time," Huizar said.

For me, it was a bad idea for Erik Morales to return and step into the ring again. This is going to be a tough fight for him. The Erik Morales five years ago is way different to the present Erik. He’s too old and too worn out. He’s been through war after war.

The sad thing is you can’t stop the man from fighting no matter what. He is considered as one of the great Mexican fighters of all time and a former three-division champion. It’s about a serious workout after a long 2½ year break.
