Miguel Cotto deserves Respect

Nov. 17, 2009 | by Ruel Y. Muniz

Miguel Cotto deserves respect for the courage he showed to enormous boxing fans during the Pacquiao-Cotto Firepower Action on Saturday November 14 at the MGM Grand Arena Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cotto was known as heavy puncher and one of the most dangerous fighters on his division. Early in his career the young Miguel Cotto won several international competitions as an amateur fighter. He also defeated first class boxers in his professional career. Miguel Cotto’s Professional record was tarnished by his first loss. Before the clash against Pacquiao, Cotto defended his WBO Welterweight crown title over Joshua Clottey.

Cotto was damaged goods because of the extreme beating he suffered from Pacquiao. Cotto has failed to avenge his first loss against Antonio Margarito who was confirmed using illegal hand wraps prior to his fight against Shane Mosley.

Cotto gave his best on the fight but it was Manny Pacquioa’s night. Cuts on his face were opened up by punches from Pacquioa. The Puerto Rican’s reputation was stained for the second time. Miguel Cotto was knocked down but he’s going to get back up because of the passion for the sport. Miguel Cotto’s fans want to see his power and determination again.

Prior to the fight Arum said, "If Pacquiao-Cotto is a great, great fight, we can do a rematch. Or he could fight Shane Mosley, whom he wants to fight".

The Saturday Firepower generated great Pay-Per-View ratings. A rematch is more likely to happen in the future if Mayweather ducks Pacquiao.

I salute Miguel Cotto for the courage and the Heart that he showed during the fight.. but for you Mr. muniz.. you don't deserve our respect.. If you acknowledge the fact that pacquiao is the best fighter in our era, then you will get our respect.

A rematch with Antonio Margarito, if ever Antonio fights again, would be a great rematch to clear that bout and Cotto mentally.

I give respect for cotto. Very humble man like paquiao and has the spirit of sportsmanship. He should be like other fighters too, who still stand proud despite being beaten, and will still move on to enhance his self.
CHURVA says:
Yes, Cotto need respect. But Mr. Muniz you don't deserve a respect. You're not a true journalist. Your in the payroll list of mayweather production. Cause you don't want to fight mayweather by pacman. You want to be mayweahter spared. You want to divert the calling of boxing world. You porpusely squeased Fire Power 2. My goodness be kind to Cotto, let the man live, Don't let this man lead into his dead!
