Devon Alexander finishes Juan Urango

Devon Alexander unified the WBC and IBF light welterweight crowns after the 8th round stoppage of Juan Urango on Saturday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Devon Alexander almost controlled the fight in early rounds. Alexander showed great speed and power in round one and Urango also connected some clean shots. Alexander was caught off guard several times and Urango took advantage on the chances and openings.

Round four was so intense. Both fighters landed solid punches. After Alexander’s relentless attack in early rounds, Urango did a great job in rounds five and six. Urango continued throwing bombs on Alexander and kept the pressure to destroy him.

In the seventh round, Alexander caught Urango with clean shots. Finally in the first minute of the 8th round, he knocked down Urango with a right hand uppercut. Referee Benjy Esteves stopped the fight because of serious damage suffered by Urango.

Devon Alexander made a successful defense of his WBC belt. Alexander unified the WBC and IBF light welterweight titles.
